Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Upcycling and Lumicor Products

A message on Earth Day and repurposing Lumicor products from Eliza, our Impact & Purpose Strategist:

As a manufacturer, understanding the positive and negative impact that we have on the environment is vital to the health of the Earth, which is why we have continued to be conscious about the afterlife of our products, overconsumption, waste, and limiting ocean bound plastics.

A second life

In order to reduce waste once our products reach the end of their life cycle, we encourage eco-conscious repurposing. All items that are unsold or damaged in production are donated to nonprofits and reclaimed building materials organizations. These organizations allow our products to be listed for architectural salvage where designers, architects, home buyers, and more are able to claim materials and give them a second life.

We also want to steward our responsibility to the earth by keeping manufacturing materials out of the landfill, not just finished products. At the end of its use in our manufacturing process, we offer our industrial canvas to local artists and educators, free of charge. Through the creative reuse of materials, we are forming connections with local educational and artistic communities, establishing long term relationships.

Reusing as Innovative Practice

In addition to being conscientious of our products at the end of their life, we want to be responsible with how we manufacture Resin Panels. All resin we currently source has up to 60% recycled content as we work toward a closed loop recycling system. We are constantly looking to create and innovate with recycled materials, especially in our Resin Panel décors. We recycle raw materials back into our decors as another way to incorporate sustainability practices with our products. Our Take II metallic decor is repurposed shop floor scrap from Honeycomb, another metallic. The result is transformed industrial waste becoming an elegant finished product, showcasing the possibilities of recycled material. Similarly, seven of our décors have been upcycled from recycled glass, including bottles, plates, and windows among other throw-aways, creating a stunning decor with an aggregate of 98%-100% recycled content. Together, these decors offer architects and designers a more environmentally friendly option for even the most refined spaces.

Closing Thoughts

We strive to design products that add beauty and inspiration to your surroundings while equally committing to protecting the environment. Through our eco-conscious efforts, we are dedicated to giving our Resin Panels a second life through repurposing programs and collaborations with external organizations. We also work diligently to keep our manufacturing materials out of landfills by repurposing canvas in local communities. Lastly, we practice responsible manufacturing by using recycled resin content for Resin Panels and recycled raw materials for our decors. Together, we can make a positive impact on both your space and the earth.
